Cold Stunned Turtles Released
A neat pictorial posted by the Palm Beach Post highlighting efforts to help local Sea Turtles during the recent record cold spell in South Florida. The turtles recovered from the cold with help from the great people at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton and were later released across the street at Red Reef Park.
Bearded Fireworm
This guy was cruising around on the rocks of Red Reef.
Feather Dusters
The rocks at Red Reef have been blown all over the place so the Feather Duster’s are more exposed than normal. This guy was out and about til he saw me sneak up on him.
Now you see him!
Now you don’t!
A little closer.
Porcupinefish – The Staredown
This is the staredown photo. The one below is a closeup of this same photo.
Porcupinefish – Close Up
This Porcupinefish’s home has had the furniture moved around a bit. I was out of town last week, but it looks like some good storms rolled through. Not only is the beach eroded pretty far back, which makes for a nice sand bar for small kids to play on, but the rocks this guy calls home have been moved around. I was able to get closer than normal, but I don’t like to mess with him much. Afterall, it’s his house. I’m just a guest!
BTW… Those are real scratches on his forehead.
Rough Day to Snorkel!
We ventured out into the water yesterday in spite of rough conditions and waves better suited for boogie boarding. Visibility was good and there were a ton of fish hanging around the rocks, but picture taking wasn’t much of an option.
Find the Blenny!
See the Blenny? This guy was a bit sheepish. Quite frankly, I don’t blame him. There were a few people out snorkeling on this day and that’s never a great thing. I’d be scared too if I was him.
Photo of Hairy Blenny
This Hairy Blenny was just hanging out on the rocks. She stayed nice and still until I got too close and then bolted to the underside of the boulder. They have such personalities!
Some Type of Jellysomething
This isn’t really a Jellysomething, it’s a Sea Walnut. This isn’t the greatest picture, but thought it was unique and cool enough to post. It’s hard to get a good picture of floating objects in a choppy surf.
Picture of Parotfish
Not the best quality photo, but I found it to be very cool that this Parotfish had a smaller fish latched on and swimming around with him.
