These Porkfish were hanging out around a rock full of fish. The only thing missing was a juvenile. These a pretty common along the East Coast of South Florida, but to see this many at one time schooling around is pretty rare. Enjoy!

This picture was taken on 2/16/2008 while snorkeling on Peanut Island in West Palm Beach. He was burrowed into the sand until I got close and started taking pics. He seemed to get a little angry with me and then swam off.

Sea Urchin – West Indian Sea Egg

Winter snorkeling in South Florida. This picture was taken on 2/9/2008 while snorkeling at Coral Cove Park in Tequesta, Fl. Since the Sea Urchin doesn’t move very quickly (if at all), I was able to get several pictures. There was a lot of them hanging around the rocks on this day. Notice the things on the top of this guy. The neat thing is that somehow the Sea Urchin put these on its top to camouflage itself and blend in with its surroundings. When you see these up close, it’s hard to imagine how it would be able to do something like this.

This photo was taken at Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, Florida. He’s usually hanging out under the rocks and doesn’t seem to move around a whole lot. He has a lot of personality in those eyes.

This photo was taken today at Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, Florida. It was a really calm morning with very little wave activity and the water was nice and warm. As the day progressed, the waves picked up and so did the sand. There were a few big Stingray’s, Barracuda’s and Snook swimming around and a wide variety of other smaller fish as well.

This photo was taken at Coral Cove Park in Tequesta, Florida. Tequesta is located just North of the Jupiter Inlet. This really is a great place to snorkel. There are tons of rock structures, plant live and a great variety of different species. I was able to get a lot of good pictures the last time I snorkeled here. The picture below is includes a Sheepshead in the foreground and a Porkfish in the back. I will be posting more photos from this trip in the near future.
